This class will explore basic and advanced mold melting techniques such as relief - open mold melting and three dimensional - close mold melting. Students will go through the whole process of making a small glass sculpture. They will start with sketching and clay modeling and continuing with making plaster mold for kiln casting. They will also learn about lost wax technique. Students will learn how to make a professional hand built mold for kiln casting with metal reinforcement, how to build reservoir and how to calculate glass investment.
Students will also learn how to calculate casting and annealing curve. Finally students will go through the process of finalizing sculpture with cold working.

1961-67 Apprenticeship in glass cutting at the Bohemia Glassworks in Svetla n.S.
1967-71 Studies at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Kamenicky Senov.
1971-72 Head master at the Bohemia Glassworks in Svetla n.S.
1972-75 Glasscutter at the Co-op Vytvarna remesla Prague.
1975-81 Studies at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague under prof. Stanislav Libensky.
1985-88 Glass designer at the Institute of Interior and Fashion Design - UBOK Prague.
1989 Attending Pilchuck Glass School in class of Jiri Harcuba
1993-95 Glass designer at the LINEA-UBOK Prague.
1995-97 Visiting professor at the Toyama Institute of Glass Art in Toyama (TIGA), Japan.
1998-00 Teacher at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Kamenicky Senov.
2000-01 Visiting assistant professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY, USA.
2003-06 Teacher at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Kamenicky Senov, Czech Republic.
Since 05 The International advisory member of GAS (Glass Art Society, USA)
Since 06 Director of the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Kamenicky Senov.


Since 2001 F. Janak have taught and lectured in USA - PGC Pittsburgh, Corning Studio, CIA Cleveland, Tacoma Glass museum, PFAC Seattle, Kent University Ohio, Carbondale University, Wheaton Village, in Canada at Sheridan College and also in Europe in Bild Werk Frauenau, CRISFORM Portugal, UIAH Helsinki etc. At the moment F. Janak cooperates with Steuben Corning on new designs.
